Privacy Policy

Overview

Feelies ("we," "us," or "our") helps you find films and scenes that match how you feel right now. This policy explains what information the Feelies apps and website collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Feelies is available on the web, iOS, Android, and TV platforms. Behavior is similar across platforms, but some features (such as HealthKit or Health Connect) are device-specific.

  • ·We do not sell your personal information.
  • ·Health and wearable data stay on your device unless you choose to share derived mood/energy signals as part of a recommendation request — we do not upload raw HealthKit or Health Connect samples to our servers.
  • ·Account sign-in (optional) stores your email, a hashed password, profile preferences, and thumbs-up/down tuning so you can sync across devices.
  • ·Letterboxd ratings, seen history, and most session data stay on your device by default.
  • ·Anonymous research is off unless you turn it on, and never includes your email, account ID, or raw health readings.

Information we collect

Information you provide

  • ·Account email and password (password stored as a one-way hash, not plain text) if you register or sign in.
  • ·Profile settings such as goal, mood, energy, stress, openness, watch-time budget, and streaming region.
  • ·Thumbs-up/down feedback tied to films and goals, synced when you use an account.
  • ·Letterboxd username, CSV import, or public RSS feed data you choose to connect — used to boost recommendations; stored locally on your device unless synced via your account profile.
  • ·Free-text intent you type when asking for a recommendation (processed for matching; not used for anonymous research).
  • ·Beta waitlist sign-up: your email address, which build you asked for (iPhone, Android, or both), and the approximate country your request came from — used only to send the TestFlight or Google Play invite and to size regional test groups. We do not store your IP address.

Information from your device

  • ·On iOS (HealthKit): heart rate, heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, recent steps, and sleep duration — only after you grant permission. Readings are converted on-device into coarse energy/stress/mood signals for recommendations.
  • ·On Android (Health Connect): similar wellness metrics when you connect and grant read permission.
  • ·On web: simulated wellness readings unless you use a native app with health permissions.
  • ·Device-local data: recently shown films, watch sessions, insights consent preference, auth token, and cached library data in app storage or browser local storage.

Information collected automatically

  • ·When you request recommendations online, your current UserState (goal, derived signals, runtime budget, optional intent, Letterboxd rating map) is sent to our API to score films. We do not persist full recommendation requests as user profiles unless required for operating the service.
  • ·Standard server logs from our host (Vercel), such as IP address, request time, and user agent, for security and reliability.
  • ·Approximate region for streaming availability (derived from request headers or locale you set).

Anonymous research (off by default; opt in anytime)

  • ·Feelies can send coarse, non-identifying event buckets (for example low/mid/high energy bands, goal, platform, film ID, thumbs) to our server to improve recommendations. Because these are derived from your mood and health state, they are never sent unless you switch this on in Settings, and you can switch it back off anytime.
  • ·We reject payloads that contain email, account identifiers, raw slider values, raw health samples, or free-text intent.
  • ·Events are aggregated with a minimum cohort size before being kept for product research.

How we use information

  • ·Generate and rank film and scene recommendations.
  • ·Sync your profile and tuning across devices when you sign in.
  • ·Pair TV devices with your account when you approve a code.
  • ·Improve the film library and matching quality (including optional anonymous research).
  • ·Operate, secure, and debug the service.
  • ·Comply with legal obligations.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these situations:

  • ·Service providers that help us run Feelies (for example Vercel for hosting and storage, and optionally an AI gateway for one-line recommendation blurbs when configured). They process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations.
  • ·Public Letterboxd RSS feeds when you enter a username — we fetch public rating data to improve your picks.
  • ·TMDB and similar metadata services when enriching film information (generally title/ID lookups, not your personal data).
  • ·Legal requirements, if we believe disclosure is required by law or to protect rights and safety.

Affiliate links

Some links to watch a title are affiliate links. If you follow one and rent, buy, or subscribe, Feelies may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Feelies earns from qualifying purchases.

Commission never influences what we recommend. The matching engine is deterministic and ranks titles on emotional fit, runtime, and your current state. It does use platform data, but only in two ways you control: it can hide titles that aren't streamable in your region, and it can favour the services you told us you subscribe to. Which platforms pay us, and how much, is not an input to scoring at any point.

Following an affiliate link tells the destination that you arrived from Feelies. It does not send them your health data, mood state, or account details.

Where data is stored

  • ·On your device: most preferences, Letterboxd imports, seen history, sessions, and health permissions.
  • ·On our servers (when account sync is enabled): email, password hash, profile, and tuning in encrypted storage managed via Vercel Blob or local development files.
  • ·Anonymous research buffers and aggregates (only if you opted in) on our servers with coarse buckets only.

Retention

  • ·Account data is kept until you delete your account. Deletion is self-serve — Taste & sync → Delete account in the iPhone app, or Settings → Account on the web — and takes effect immediately: the record holding your email, password hash, profile and tuning is erased, not deactivated.
  • ·Beta waitlist entries are kept until the beta for that platform ends, or until you ask us to remove your address — whichever comes first. They are never merged into an account or a mailing list.
  • ·Device-local data remains until you clear app data, uninstall, or clear browser storage.
  • ·Anonymous research events are retained only as long as needed for aggregation and product improvement, then rolled into cohort statistics.
  • ·Server logs are retained for a limited period consistent with our hosting provider's practices.

Your choices and controls

  • ·Use Feelies without an account (local-only mode).
  • ·Disconnect HealthKit or Health Connect at any time in device settings.
  • ·Turn anonymous research on or off in the app.
  • ·Remove Letterboxd connection or clear imported data from device storage.
  • ·Sign out to remove the auth token from your device.
  • ·Delete your account from inside the app or the web settings page — immediate and irreversible, no request needed.
  • ·Ask us to remove your address from the beta waitlist at any time — one email to the contact address below, no account needed.
  • ·Contact us to request access to or correction of account data.

Security

We use industry-standard measures including HTTPS, hashed passwords, and signed session tokens. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Feelies is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information.

International users

Feelies is operated from the United States. If you use Feelies from other regions, your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
